Frequently asked questions

Are the harnesses adjustable to fit pets with unique body shapes?

Yes, our harnesses are fully adjustable, making it easy to achieve a secure and comfortable fit for pets with unique body shapes. The adjustable straps also accommodate growth, but as your pet reaches their full size, you may need to size up to maintain their comfort.

Are your cat collars breakaway?

Yes, our cat collars have breakaway buckles. These “safety” or “quick release” buckles are designed to release under pressure if your cat gets caught, keeping them safe from harm.

Are your collars adjustable?

Yes! All the collars we sell are fully adjustable, making it easy to find the perfect fit for your pet.

Adjusting your collar is simple, but if you need guidance, we’ve got you covered! Check out our step-by-step Collar Adjusting Video for a quick and easy tutorial.

Are your Naruto Ninja Collars made with real metal plates?

No, we chose to use leather for pet safety.

Leather is flexible and lightweight, making it safe for pets. Lightweight metals can have sharp edges that might harm them, while smoother, heavier metals are less suitable, especially for cats.

Can I request a custom design?

We love hearing your ideas! While we don’t offer fully custom designs, we’re always open to suggestions for future collections.

Can I request a different buckle type?

Each collar comes with the buckle suited to its type: a safety breakaway buckle on cat collars and a secure side-release buckle on dog collars.

All of our plastic buckles are made of polyoxymethylene (POM).

POM (Polyoxymethylene), also known as Acetal or Delrin, is a high-performance engineering thermoplastic- a formaldehyde-based engineering plastic. It is specifically designed to bridge the gap between ordinary plastics and metals.

Did You Know? POM is often called "Plastic Steel" because its molecular structure allows it to behave more like a metal than a traditional plastic, providing incredible fatigue resistance for parts that need to open and close thousands of times.

We are currently unable to offer metal buckle alternatives.

Can I use this collar with a leash?

Dog collars have a secure, non-breakaway buckle and a D-ring, so you can attach a leash.

Cat collars use a breakaway buckle for safety — it's designed to pop open under pressure so your cat can free themselves if snagged. For that reason a cat collar should not be used with a leash. To walk a cat on a leash, use a harness instead.

Do collars come with a matching leash?

Collars are sold on their own — a leash isn't included. Many designs have a matching leash available separately, and our leashes use a universal clip that pairs with our collars and harnesses, so you can mix and match. Browse the matching design or our Leashes collection to add one.

How do I adjust the harness to fit my pet?

To adjust the harness:

  1. Locate the adjustment sliders on the straps.
  2. Slide the straps through the sliders to loosen or tighten the fit as needed.
  3. Check the fit to ensure it’s snug but comfortable—there should be enough room to fit two fingers between the harness and your pet.

This ensures a secure and comfortable fit for your pet’s adventures!

How do I choose the right size harness for my pet?

For Dog Sizing, we recommend checking our harness size charts for detailed guidance.

  • For our cat-loving fans, we recommend XXS for cats up to 10 lbs and XS for cats 10 lbs and over.
  • And trust us - our employee has a 22 lbs cat, he wears our XS~!

How do I clean and maintain the harness to ensure it lasts?

Spot clean with cold water and mild, pet-safe detergent (free and clear formulas recommended). Lay flat to dry.

Avoid machine washing or tumble drying — the designs are sublimation-printed, and harsh cycles or heat can affect the print and hardware.

How do I get my pet's neck size?

Use a flexible measuring tape or a piece of string* around the pet’s neck. Allow room by placing two fingers between the collar and the pet’s neck.

*When using the string method, a flat ruler is needed to get the measurement after getting the size around the pet’s neck.

How do I properly put the harness on my pet?

Putting the harness on your pet is simple:

  1. Unbuckle the harness and lay it open.
  2. Place the harness over your pet’s head so the front loop sits comfortably on their chest.
  3. Adjust the straps around their body and secure the buckle.
  4. Check the fit to ensure it’s snug but not too tight—allow room for two fingers to fit between the harness and your pet.

How does this harness fit compared to other Pawsonify harnesses?

Most of our harnesses share the same size chart, but small design differences mean some styles run a little roomier or snugger than others. If your pet is between sizes, use your chest-girth measurement and the size chart as your guide — and when in doubt, size up for comfort.

Is this a step-in harness or does it go over the head?

Our harnesses go over the head rather than being step-in. You unbuckle and lay the harness open, slip the front loop over your pet's head so it rests on their chest, then fasten the adjustable side buckle and check the fit — snug, with room for two fingers.

Is this harness safe for leash walking, or is it mainly for fashion?

Both — our harnesses are made for real, everyday leash walking, not just looks. Each has a secure leash attachment point and fully adjustable straps so you can get a comfortable, snug fit.

As with any harness, make sure it's properly adjusted (snug, with room for two fingers) before you head out, and keep an eye on strong pullers or escape-prone pets.

Is this harness suitable for cats?

Yes! Many of our harnesses come in cat-friendly sizes — we recommend XXS for cats up to 10 lbs and XS for cats 10 lbs and over (one of our team's 22 lb cats happily wears an XS).

Check the size dropdown and harness size chart to confirm the right fit.

My cat's collar is fraying, why is this happening?

Cats' natural behaviors like scratching, climbing, and chewing can cause collar wear and tear. To prevent this, regularly check and maintain the collar, and use treats to help your cat adjust. If your cat shows discomfort, remove the collar and reintroduce it gradually. For more tips, watch instructional videos on training cats to wear collars comfortably.

What is the difference between your Cat & XS Dog Collar?

Cat collars come with a bell attached to the collar with a split ring. The bell and split ring are removable. The buckle is a breakaway.

The x-small dog collar comes with a D-ring for leash and tag use. The buckle is NOT a breakaway.

What products are the leashes compatible with?

Our leashes feature a universal clip that pairs perfectly with harnesses, collars, and most standard pet accessories for a secure fit.

However, we don’t recommend using them directly with breakaway cat collars, as these are designed to release under pressure for safety.

What's the difference between a collar and a harness — which is better for my pet?

A collar sits around your pet's neck and is great for holding ID tags and everyday wear. A harness spreads pressure across the chest and shoulders, which is gentler for walks — especially for pullers, small breeds, flat-faced dogs, and cats.

Many pet parents use a collar for ID and a harness for walking. If your pet pulls or has a delicate throat, a harness is the safer choice for leashed walks.

Which leash width should I choose?

Choose your leash width to match your pet's size. As a guide:

  • XS: Cats and small dogs.
  • Small: Medium sized dogs.
  • Medium / Large: Large dogs.

Check the leash's product page for the exact widths available for that design.
